This isn’t the normal browser testing that web designers have become used to by now; there are many more email clients than web browsers and their support for web standards are so poor, the process can get extremely frustrating.

Even for those of us who just read email newsletters on a regular basis can find the experience a less-than-ideal one due to hacked together templates unable to follow existing standards.

This is where the newly launched Email Standards Project comes in. The project’s goal is to work with both email client developers and web designers to improve support for these standards in email.

We’ve come a long way in standards support amongst web browsers, now it’s time to tackle email.

This weekend Kyle and I checked out Helvetica, a documentary about the venerable typeface. The screening was courtesy of Hot Docs, Canada’s international documentary film festival.

Say what you want about us nerds, but it’s definitely clear we do get out of the house on occasion. The turnout was huge, especially taking into account the almost painfully perfect weather. After waiting in the Rush Line for over an hour, we entered the theatre to catch Gary Hustwit introduce his acclaimed film.

We both loved it of course, but I really feel it’s a movie almost anyone can enjoy. You don’t have to be a type nerd to get anything out of it. It’s beautifully shot with captivating music as well as being completely entertaining and enlightening.

The movie will continue screening throughout the summer, hopefully to be released on DVD sometime this fall. I definitely recommend those with no design background to check it out, you’ll be amazed by how passionate designers get over a typeface, it’s wild.

Earlier today we launched CampusLifts.ca, a rideshare website for Ontario university students. This project is especially important to us as we were working with our most demanding client ever, ourselves (too cheesy?).

We won’t go into too much detail about the project here, we’ll be getting into the nitty gritty over on the CampusLifts Blog.

The site acts as a meeting place between students looking for a lift throughout Ontario and those offering one. All too often we saw students wasting money or resources getting home from school. We wanted to create a simple online meeting place where they could come together to help each other out.

We’ve been hard at work over the past couple of months, but this is just the beginning. We have exciting plans for CampusLifts in the near future.

We will of course continue to grow Inertia Web Design through client work. We work with amazing people and have no intentions of slowing down. We have a couple neat projects on the way, so stay tuned for those.

In the meantime, check out CampusLifts. The site is only open to students and faculty of most post-secondary institutions in Ontario, the narrow audience makes it easier for you to help us spread the word!
